The web sitcom centers on Riyad DeMario and his two roommates, Richard Park and Arvin Arora, three bachelors stumbling their ways through life. Raised in a wealthy and traditional Mexican family, Riyad longs to have a traditional family life, with a wife and children of his very own.  Except one minor problem.  He’s gay.  Richard has plenty of problems of his own.  He’s a talented actor but in major debt, having to jump from one menial job to the next.  Arvin has a love for food and is pursuing a career in culinary arts but is often impeded by various neuroses, such as overreacting to stressful situations and being a clean freak.

Filming is scheduled to commence around April 2011 and will be shot on location in Toronto. Each episode will run for approximately 10 mins and will air on various sites such as YouTube, Vimeo and MetaCafe.

Thank you so much for your continued support for the “Diaspora” project.

We have great updates to share!  Pre-production is progressing very smoothly and on schedule.

Auditions were held this past weekend on July 3rd and 4th and we were so excited and surprised to have received such a large number of responses to our casting call.  The selection process was difficult as each actor displayed an amazing degree of talent. Also, as we were casting members of a family, we had to select actors that matched their counterparts.  We are absolutely thrilled with the cast we have finally chosen and look forward to working with them in the next few days!

We will be working with an amazing Make-Up Artist, Anita Guastella. She is exceptional at SpecialFX make-up for film, as well as beauty and fashion.  We met up with her today to discuss the project and we can’t wait to see her work!  Check out her portfolio at www.anitaguastella.com

We are very fortunate and grateful to be given the opportunity to shoot in an amazing apartment near the Lawrence and Keele intersection. It’s actually like a set in many ways because it’s spacious with very little furniture.  The furniture currently in the apartment is very cool, Bauhaus.  We’re so sad it doesn’t work with our story.   We are currently gathering props and set-dress items.  The hunt is on!

Synopsis:
Through the keyhole of an apartment door, we glimpse into the lives of an immigrant family, witnessing their times of struggles, joys and departures over the passing years.

Character Breakdowns:
Father / 35-45yrs, South Asian/Arabic
Was a well-reputed architect in India. When he arrives in Canada with his family he realizes that his prior education is not recognized. He finds a job as a Security Officer for a bank.

Mother / 35-45yrs, South Asian/Arabic
Worked as an accountant in India. After she arrives in Canada, she enrolls in accounting courses to obtain the necessary certifications to work in the country. Enjoys learning and is a very supporting wife and mother.

Daughter (older self) / 17-28yrs, South Asian/Arabic
Although she loves her brother dearly, they have grown distant over the years. They do not have much in common and do not have much to talk about.  She excels in her studies and remains close to her parents.

Son (older self) / 15-20yrs, South Asian/Arabic
Strong-headed. After working in countless part-time jobs from a young age and treated poorly, earning close to nothing, he becomes involved in fraudulent activities, such as the selling of illegal merchandise.

Daughter (younger self) / 12-15yrs, South Asian/Arabic
Gentle, responsible, studious.

Son (younger self) / 9-10yrs, South Asian/Arabic
Enjoys games, social environments, rambunctious.

Groom / 30-35yrs, Asian
Met his future wife in college. Loving and doting.
